Bursting / Rupture Disc
Overpressure protection for tanks.

Key Details
- Over pressure protection: If the internal pressure of the tank rises suddenly due to a chemical reaction, heating of the cargo, or an operating error, the bursting disc will rupture. This releases the excess pressure instantly and prevents catastrophic tank failure.
- Response speed: Unlike pressure relief valves, which take time to open and reset, a rupture disc provides a near-instantaneous response. This rapid-response capability is critical for guarding against sudden and powerful pressure spikes.
- Vacuum relief: Some bursting discs are designed to be double-acting, meaning they can protect against both over pressure and excessive vacuum. This prevents the tank shell from being damaged by implosion if a vacuum develops internally.
- Primary or secondary relief: Bursting discs are used either as a standalone emergency pressure relief system or as a backup to a pressure relief valve. When used in series with a pressure relief valve, the bursting disc is often placed upstream to provide a leak-tight seal and protect the valve from corrosive media

Product Overview
A bursting disc, or rupture disc, is a non-reclosing safety device installed on ISO tank containers to protect against excessive internal pressure or vacuum. It is a single-use, sacrificial component that is engineered to burst at a precise pressure, providing an immediate and full-flow pressure relief.
